Underbook: solution #4

It's not that my calendar is so full, but I do have difficulty turning down social invitations and end up double booking the evening now and then, with a casual "Sure, we'll try to stop by." As a rule I then go to the first event and skip the later one, but feel guilty about leading on my friends.

It can be a release to play everything by ear, to always respond "maybe" on evite. Usually with the intention of going. On the receiving end this can become annoying to the extreme, since you have no idea how much food or booze to provide when the whole party responds "maybe." Even worse is the cellphone culture habit of making no plans at all except "I'll call you thursday, we'll do something." do what?

Perhaps the middle way is to make a decision and then be ok occasionally changing it. Yes, let's go. Then bail if you need to. If you're bailing more than going maybe there was a repressed "no" in there all along.
